READING TEXT

Many people today have trouble sleeping well. They do not just toss and turn. They wake up many times during the night. Alarms wake them up suddenly. On restless nights, they look out at the city lights. They search for strange lights in the sky. These lights can mean something is wrong. When this happens, they close their curtains tightly. They go to a bathroom, away from windows. They wait there and listen to loud noises outside. They hear explosions and jet engines. After some time, they get a message on their phones. The message says, "All is well." They go back to bed, hoping to sleep again. But they know the next alarm could come soon. A friend thinks the government is doing a good job. He says life is normal and safe. His office is busy, and business is good. He does not want to go back to India. He believes Dubai is the best place to be. But his wife feels differently. She has her own strange stories. They agree to talk later because they know their words are not private. Dubai is a city that attracts many people. It is a place for South Asians, Westerners, and Russians. People come here to escape problems like taxes and war. Many workers help support the rich. They work in banks and businesses. They keep the city running. Recently, Iran threatened to attack important places in the Gulf. This has made things more dangerous for the UAE. There have been attacks from Iran. Some drones and missiles have hit buildings. One drone hit the Dubai Financial Centre. The government called it a small problem. But it caused damage and injuries. Many workers now work from home. Some banks want their employees back in the office. They think it is safe enough now. But some workers are still worried. They remember the loud noises from the night before. They think about their families and safety. One woman managed to send her parents to safety. They are now in Mumbai, enjoying their time there. But her other relatives do not want to leave. They say they will only go if they see soldiers. This reminds me of the early pandemic days. People felt confused and afraid. They only accepted danger when it affected them directly. Shops are still open, and prices are reasonable. The government responds quickly to problems. Recently, she was at a hotel when a drone was intercepted. Guests at the pool cheered. Despite the fear, she believes Dubai is still the best place to be. Some people in Dubai think nothing compares to it. They believe other cities are worse. After living in Dubai for many years, I often hear it called a golden bird. It is a place of opportunity. It feels like a safe oasis. Many people dream of success here. I talked to a former resident who lived in Dubai for thirty years. He still thinks about the city. We discussed the future of Dubai and the news from the West. He believes Dubai offers a high quality of life. It is a multicultural city with something for everyone. The government supports business growth. They make it easy to get a visa. Inside Dubai, the news often downplays problems. Even with attacks, the headlines focus on other issues. They want to keep people calm. The government has made changes to help residents. Children now learn online. They deliver books to homes. They also offer discounts for older people. They have lifted some fees and fines. They plan to open parks and build schools. These actions help people feel safer. But many still worry about money and jobs. They talk about their work and expenses. Some people say they are well paid in Dubai. They fear starting over in another country. They have lived through many tough times. They know how to navigate life here. They want to feel like they belong. They hope for a better future. They want to stay in Dubai, even with the risks. They believe that life here is worth it. They keep their heads down and focus on work. They avoid talking about politics. They think it is better to stay out of trouble. As the war continues, some people feel uneasy. They worry about how much Dubai has changed. They remember when the city was smaller. It was a place where people lived simply. The police were strict, and people respected the rules. They knew how to behave. In the past, life was different. There were no big hotels or fancy buildings. It felt like a small town. There were many shops, and life was busy. My parents told me about a kind leader who helped people. He made it easier for families to come to Dubai. He was a generous man. He built roads and homes. He helped the city grow. I remember playing with friends in the parking lot. We played football and cricket. We had fun together. One day, a boy showed me something surprising. I was scared but did not say anything. I learned to keep quiet. I understood that local people had more power. I thought it was best to pretend nothing happened. This was not the Dubai we see today. But there was money, and life was good. I learned to work hard and stay out of trouble. As the war goes on, the government has arrested many people. They say these people spread false information. They want to keep control and avoid panic. People want to share their experiences. They want to connect with others. They count the explosions and share their fears. They ask questions online. They want to know what is happening. Some people still want to live in Dubai. They believe it is a place without limits. They think as long as they avoid politics, they will be fine. I asked an old resident if he trusts the news. He reads many sources. He knows the news is not always true. But he feels safe. He believes the government is doing a good job. He thinks the food supply is strong. He feels calm and believes Dubai will be okay. He knows there are risks, but he trusts the systems in place. He hopes for a better future. He believes that once the war ends, life will return to normal. He thinks people will come back to Dubai. He believes Dubai is strong and will survive this crisis.
